When I first dreamed up my State Parking journey I always thought it would be something I would do alone. I didn’t think people would want to come along. Lucky for me, that was not the case. I looked on the map & noticed there were many state parks in the Jacksonville area. My Uncle Barry & Aunt Tracey lived there so I went up for a visit. Aunt Tracey kept Casey while Uncle Barry & I went to several state parks.
Pumpkin Hill Creek was less than 10 miles from their house so we decided to check that out first. Now the pamphlet showed some nice trails with water at the end. We looked around & nothing was matching that description. Looking across the field it just seemed to be a trail better taken by horseback. We consulted the pamphlet once more. It seemed as if we were not dressed appropriately for the type of hiking trails we were encountering. The name of one of the trails scared me a little too – Diamondback. I just don’t think my cheap ‘tennis’ shoes and my uncles flip flops would have held up.
A pretty park that was left to be explored farther another day.
Before you visit, make sure you check out the parks website for all of the up-to-date park information: https://www.floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/pumpkin-hill-creek-preserve-state-park
