The first thing that caught my eye when I arrived at Judah P. Benjamin Confederate Memorial at Gamble Plantation Historic State Park was the antebellum mansion. It is believed to be the only surviving plantation in South Florida. I was fortunate enough to catch the last tour of the day. It was pretty cool to go through the house and see history and hear about how things came about. Did you know that back in the day the bathtub was only filled once and the bathing order was dad, mom & then kids in age order? Just think, this is how the saying ‘Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater’ was created.

It was a great tour and over before I knew it. The end of the tour marked the close of the park for the day. I took one walk around the grounds and then said my goodbyes to the Gamble Plantation for the time being.

Before you visit, make sure you check out the parks website for all of the up-to-date park information: https://www.floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/judah-p-benjamin-confederate-memorial-gamble-plantation-historic-state-park
