The Florida Panhandle is such an amazing place to visit. Beauty was everywhere! The drive to Apalachicola was pretty incredible. When I arrived at the Orman House, I was surprised to see there was a lock on the gate to the parking lot. It was New Years Day & that was when I discovered some parks, like the museums, were actually closed for the holiday.

I parked on the street, walked around the the locked gate & took a look around. I could not tour the house but I sure did make my way around the outside of the property. There was a replica of a Vietnam memorial & a pretty garden, Chapman Botanical Gardens. I was disappointed to find the park closed because I wasn’t sure when I would get back to the Panhandle again. Planning a little better & reading ahead would have helped a lot on that day of State Parking. The grounds were very pretty & I would love to go back when the house is open for tours.

Before you visit, make sure you check out the parks website for all of the up-to-date park information: https://www.floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/orman-house-historic-state-park
