Upon entering Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park I was greeted by a very handsome & friendly park ranger that gave me helpful tips about the park. Thankfully the rain took a break for a while and I was able to walk around the bayou and lake and admire its calm beauty. There were people kayaking and also doing a little fishing. Lots of activity on a spotty day.
There were three short hiking trails at the park. One along the lake, one by the bayou, and one in the forest. The rain started falling again and I felt a little discouraged until I found the last hiking trail, except it was a scenic tour that was made to be driven through, not hiked! So perfect for the weather conditions.
The ride was through a stunning pine forest, and some of the pines were 300 years old. I loved every minute of that slow ride. Of course I still managed to get out of the car and walk through the pines to look at the pretty water. The end of the trail led to the exit – a perfect ending to a lovely visit.
