When Brian and I arrived at Fort Moses Historic State Park, we were drawn to the first thing we could see, the boardwalk. I walked cautiously down the boardwalk towards the water because there were a ton of birds just hanging out. Brian and I stood at the end of the boardwalk looking for the fort and the settlement but could not find anything but water. We didn’t see them because according to the plaques they were now under water. We soaked in the moment, took some pictures, chased some birds, and headed to the visitor center. There we took a small break in the A/C and regrouped.

The visitor center was also a museum filled with information about the first legally sanctioned free African settlement, which made that land so special. Although the structures are not there the stories still keep the history alive.
