Hontoon Island State Park is the closest state park to my house, about 10 minutes away. My goal was since I started my year journey was to I finished my goal at that park, on my actual birthday, July 25th, one year after I started my State Parking journey. I dreamt of having a giant party to celebrate this accomplishment but I woke up one day and decided against the party. I thought I would just enjoy that moment quietly and alone, after work, and stay there until the sunset.

Well, like many State Parking plans, that one changed, last minute, due to an amazing gift that Sherri and Junior got me – tickets to watch my O’s play in Tampa, on my actual birthday. I knew I was going to have to go to Hontoon Island the morning of the 23rd and that is just what I did.

George came over first thing in the morning and we headed to Hontoon Island. We took the complementary ferry over, walked around the picnic area and over to the Hontoon Island sign, taking a few fun pictures. I told him some tidbits about the park before we went into the gift shop, which was also the museum. We walked the path that lead us to the cabins and then headed back to the ferry. It was a short but fun visit to the park.
