The Barnacle Historic State Park was an oasis tucked away in a busy city. I would suggest you plan to spend the day in Coconut Grove and explore the shops and town because you will have to pay for public parking, you might as well plan to see all of the sights. Once I parked, I made my way to the park. As I walked through the incredible entrance, the sound of Coconut Grove disappeared & the calming sound of nature took over. There was a wonderful house to tour and the grounds had an impressive view of the Biscayne Bay.
When I arrived, I stood on the porch, looking at the lawn & the bay, envisioning all of the fun that could be had with picnics and family gatherings. I made my way to the boat house, admired the wooden sailboats, and stood peering into the the water. What an amazing park. It was one of the last pieces of the old Miami Hammock that used to be all over the city. Now they are in parcels, few and far between.
