Before I set off on my day’s journey, I stopped at Wawa to take advantage of the free air and to get a sandwich for lunch. By the time I arrived at Oscar Scherer, it was past time to fill my belly. I drove into the park & stopped at the first place that I spotted to have my sandwich. I ate in a picnic area near the canoe launch and then took a hike along the waters edge. It was a nice, easy hike where I was able to see a few different types of birds & enjoy the calmness of the water.

I made my way to the main area of the park & unloaded my bike. I was looking forward to riding through the bike friendly trails around the park. I quickly discovered that instead of adding air to my tires, I seemed to have taken it out. My dreams of a leisure bike ride were gone. I put my bike back on the rack and then walked around by the swimming hole. I was getting a little warn so I decided to check out the cool Nature Center. When I was in there, I overheard the volunteer telling people about a Bald Eagles nest on a trail that was about a ½ mile hike. I could deal with that short of a hike to see the eagles nesting, so off I went to see this wonder.

I am not know to be the best listener and I must have taken a wrong turn somewhere because that hike turned into a 2 mile hike and I still did not see an eagles nest. I was not prepared for that hike in any way. I had a half a bottle of water, there was no shade on any part of the trail, the sand was so soft & very difficult to walk on. I felt like I was trapped in the desert. I was not enjoying my time in nature one bit. Just when I was about to scream out of frustration, one of the eagles flew right over my head, which was super cool, and turned my frustration into happiness instantly. I probably walked right by that nest but I was just too distraught to see it. I was thrilled to reach the end of that hike! I went back to the Nature Center to get some water & found a nice bench in the shade to regroup & get my energy back.
