My dad told me a few months before I stopped at Lower Wekiva River that there was not a whole lot to do there unless you were on horseback and it turns out, he was right! Honestly, I was not even going to write about this park because there really is not a lot I have to say about it. Andrew and I stopped at it on our way to Orlando to visit my mom for her birthday.

We entertained the idea of hiking down the trails for a bit but the thought was fleeting. Although it was only the beginning of March, it felt like it was the middle of summer. We looked around and made a decision to revisit the park again with my dad, on the back of a horse.

Lower Wekiva is also enjoyed on a kayak and you can launch at Katie’s Landing. I thought about doing this with my friend Amanda but then I heard about all of the gators lurking about & decided against it. I am just not built for those types of adventures.

Before you visit, make sure you check out the parks website for all of the up-to-date park information: https://www.floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/lower-wekiva-river-preserve-state-park
