When you are on a mission to see all of the lighthouses in Florida, sometimes you have to get a little creative, and sometimes you have to work extra hard. I had heard so many great things about Alligator Reef Lighthouse and since we were in the Keys I just knew we had to go see it. Now mind you, I come up with these great ideas and Quin, for the most part, has to figure out how to carry them out. Alligator Reef was another lighthouse that was in the middle of the water. Many people boat out to it on their private boats to enjoy snorkeling & just hanging out for the day. I did find options for tours that went out to the lighthouse but the times & route did not fit our agenda or any other stops we were looking to make while on the water.

We got up first thing in the morning and headed to Robbie’s in Islamorada. We knew we could rent a boat there and wanted to speak to them in person because the water seemed a bit choppy & was expected to worsen as the day went on. We told the nice man at the counter our goal for the day. We shared how we were on a mission to see all of the lighthouses in Florida & we were really interested in getting to Alligator Reef that morning. At first he was reluctant to let us go with the boat but, luckily, I have a boyfriend that has been driving boats since before he could walk (probably).

I am not going to lie, that ride out there was pretty close to horrible. Quin was going as slow as he possibly could but we were still getting our butts kicked! It took a long time to get out of there & the ride was pretty quiet because talking to the captain proved to be a bad idea. He was too busy keeping us alive to engage in chit chat. As we got closer I got super excited. I was instructed to take my pictures quickly because we needed to head back before it got even more dangerous.

As we traveled back the waves slowed down & when we got to the other side of the bridge everything was calm and steady. We popped open the champagne & made the most with the rest of our boat rental day. We toured around islands & mangroves & even soaked up the sun. Even though the adventure did not go as I had imagined, it was still pretty awesome & I was happy we got to see another one together & have an interesting story to go with it.
